FAQ

General

Q: What is an electronic cigarette?

An electronic cigarette is an alternative to the traditional cigarette. It uses a heating element to change liquids containing nicotine into a vapor which can be inhaled like a regular cigarette. It is composed of a battery, an atomizer and a cartridge for the liquid.

Q: Why am I getting a burnt taste?

If you only get the burnt taste every once in a while or on start up it may be due to a dry atomizer. When this happens inhale on the device without pressing the button for a few times ( this brings fresh liquid into the atomizer without burning it ), afterwards use as one normally would once by pressing the button when inhaling( this clears the excess liquid from the atomizer ) , then repeat these steps a few times ( repeating helps to clear out the burnt residue ). If this fails then it may need to be cleaned or replaced. See our cleaning instructions in the below category.

Q: I have not received my order?

We ship orders out as quickly as possible. Most orders are shipped within hours of being placed. Once we have marked your order as shipped, please allow 3-5 business days (though it is usually quicker) to receive it for domestic orders. If you still have not received your order please check the tracking number to ensure that the post office has attempted delivery. If the tracking information shows that your package was delivered but you did not receive it, double check that the address is correct. If it is, you will need to inquire at your local post office or call 1-800-ask-usps to initiate an investigation. Please understand that lost or stolen packages are beyond our control and represent an issue between you and the post office. We will do everything to we can to help resolve the issue but you will need to contact the post office for their assistance as well.

Atomizers

Q: What is an atomizer?

An atomizer is the heating element in an electronic cigarette. It’s used to change liquids into vapor. It has tiny filaments similar to the filament in a light bulb. When activated the filament heats up and any liquid in the chamber is changed into vapor. This vapor can then be inhaled and exhaled like the smoke in a traditional cigarette.

Q: How long does an atomizer last?

Like a light bulb, the filament in the atomizer will eventually fail. The life of an atomizer depends on how much it is used. On average, an atomizer will last for a few weeks to a couple months. If a person is a heavy vaper, the life cycle will be shorter. For light vapors, it may last longer. With proper care any atomizer can last a long time. If you’re going to switch to electronic cigarettes, you have to budget buying new atomizers to replace your expired atomizers.

Q: What is a Tawa atomizer?

The Tawa atomizer was designed as a low cost option for vapors and as a temporary replacement atomizer in electronic cigarette kits. For some, the cost of replacing an atomizer can be expensive. For these vapors, we created a low cost option. It is very similar to the normal atomizer except it doesn’t have a warranty. You have one day to test it and make sure it works. We also place a Tawa atomizer into our electronic cigarette kits as a way to assist vapors when their normal atomizers fail. They can use the Tawa atomizer as a temporary replacement while waiting for another atomizer to arrive. There is no difference as far as functions, features, materials or design.

Q: What is the difference between the Low Resistance and Normal Atomizers?

The difference between the normal and Low Resistance atomizers is the temperature. The LR atomizers reach a hotter temp a lot faster then the normal atomizers and this results in more vapor and throat hit, but the flavor is not as clean. The LR atomizers also use more power so they require more frequent charging, but it is not a big difference. Our LR atomizers have proven to be just as durable as the normal atomizers as well.

Atomizer Cleaning

Q: How do I clean my eGo-C Atomizer?

  1. Remove the atomizer from the cone/base and battery.
  2. Using a bowl / cup of very Hot but not boiling water, Rinse the atomizer thoroughly for approximately 2-3 min. It is recommended that you grip the atomizer using tweezers or pliers during this process to avoid burning your fingers in the water.
  3. Blow out all the water from the atomizer and repeat steps 2 and 3 twice more.
  4. Allow your atomizer to dry out completely before reuse. Usually 1 day of dry time is sufficient.

Q: How do I clean my elips Atomizer?

  1. Remove the atomizer from the battery.

Q: Can I clean the atomizer coil directly?

Yes. It is easy to damage the coil though so this is only recommended if you are trying to save an otherwise unusable atomizer. The spike can be removed using a small tool such as a flathead jewelery screwdriver. Using the screwdriver as a lever, gently work the spike section lose. It is helpful to move back and forth between the two air vents lifting the spike out in small increments. Once the spike is removed you can use a pick or cloth as you feel is necessary to clean the coil. Keep in mind that any oils, threads, or chemicals left on the coil will burn when it is used. We recommend hot water and delicate cleaning with tools that do not leave residue or debris. Once you have cleaned the coil, dry and reassemble the atomizer. Be aware of the wick position; it should be just above the coil but not touching. Don't forget to prime the atomizer with eLiquid before you use it again to prevent burning. This is a little bit advanced cleaning with small pieces and tools so please only do this if you are confident that you can do it safely.

Q: How safe are your batteries?

Recent events in the news have made people more worried about the safety of batteries used in e-cigarettes. We have been concerned about this issue and had already taken steps to prevent incidents like this from happening. One of the most important features we have incorporated into our batteries is having double safety chips. This doubles your protection and ensures you have a backup safety chip in case one of the chips fail. These chips feature discharge, overcharge protection and short circuit protection. All designed to decrease the chances of battery failure and protect the most important part, the Consumer.

Q: Why doesn't the LED light come on?

This may be due to your battery needing a recharge. In some cases this will indicate that the battery is damaged and needs to be replaced. Most of our batteries contain short protection and overcharge precautions which will shut down the battery when a problem is detected. If moisture gets into the battery this may happen and require some dry time before reuse.

Q: Why does the LED flash?

The LED will flash when turning the battery on / off with some units such as our eGo-C. The LED will also flash before the battery completely runs out of power. The LED is also designed to flash when the battery is first placed on charge. If your battery has displayed this flashing and none of the above can be confirmed, then the battery will need to be replaced if it will no longer charge.

Q: My battery gets really hot, is this normal?

No, this can be the sign of a serious defect. A person should never operate any rechargeable device experiencing excessive heat. The battery may heat up due to heavy use and even at this point it is a good idea to stop and allow the unit to cool. At any sign of high heat it is recommended to replace the battery.

Q: My USB Pass-through acts strange when charging?

The USB Pass-through battery features a unique charging system designed to protect the life span of the battery. Understanding the characteristics of the charging system will help you better understand the battery. The life span of a Lithium-ion battery is decided by number of times it is charged and discharged. If we charge and discharge the battery too often, the life span will decrease with every charge. The USB pass-through battery was designed to start recharging after the end-user uses a certain amount of battery power. This prevents the battery from constantly recharging itself and helps to improve the life span of the battery. When using a USB port, the battery will not recharge until the power falls below 4.0 volts. If the battery is constantly recharging while you vape, the life span will decrease sharply. How to check if the battery is defective: First, turn on your battery by pressing the Atomizer button 5 times within 2 seconds. Next, Connect the USB pass-through battery to the USB port. Make sure the atomizer is connected to the battery. The red LED light on the will not turn on if the atomizer is not connected and if the battery has a charge of more than 4.0 volts. Press the atomizer button and you will see the red LED lights turn on. The reason for this is pressing the atomizer button pulls a charge from the battery and allows it to fall below the required 4.0 volt recharge limit. The red LED at the base will turn on until the voltage returns to 4.0 volts. This means the battery USB charging end is working well. If the Red LED light does not turn on when you press the atomizer button, the battery is not working well. The voltage requirement for recharging with a normal eGo charger the top end of the battery is different for the pass-through at the base. It starts recharging at 4.2 volts. If your battery power falls a few milliamps below 4.2 volts, the eGo charger light will turn red. However, If the battery charge is below 4.0 volts, the red LED at the bottom will light up.

Liquids

Q: Where does the liquid nicotine come from that you use in your e-liquid?

We currently offer two varieties. Our classic liquids that are made in China and our Italian liquids which are ,as one may guess, made in Italy. Both of our liquid varieties are tested for strict adherence to our quality and safety standards. Q: What is PG? / What does PG stand for?

PG refers to Propylene Glycol. It is a colorless, nearly odorless, clear, viscous liquid with a faintly sweet taste. It is used for multiple Medical and Food production applications. Some people have a sensitivity to it which causes mild throat irritation and for those individuals it is recommended that they use a low to zero mix of PG liquid.

Q: What is VG? / What does VG stand for?

VG refers to Vegetable glycerin. Vegetable glycerin is also known as vegetable glycerol. Food-grade vegetable glycerin is 99.7% pure, with the remaining 0.3% being water. It has a sweet taste, but is metabolized differently than sugar and does not raise blood sugar levels. Glycerin is used in foods marketed as being low in carbohydrates to keep them sweet and moist.

Q: What is the PG/VG mix of your liquids?

The majority of our liquids fall in the range of 60/40 PG/VG. They all vary slightly from flavor to flavor but most are within these figures.

Q: Does Nicotine level effect the taste?

Sure does, usually higher nicotine liquids have more flavoring added to compensate for this. That does not make them equal though. If you change the strength of eLiquid you may notice a difference in flavor.

Q: How do I know what strength of nicotine to use?

This is ultimately a matter of personal preference, but that can be hard to know when your using an eCig for the first time. Luckily there are some pretty basic guidelines that can help you decide.

Other than its own effects, nicotine strength affects eLiquid in two important ways. It plays a big part in adding to the throat hit, the kick you get in the back of your throat when you inhale the vapor, and nicotine does impart it's own flavor. Because of that, the same flavor will not always be identical at different strengths.

Nicotine strength is often shown as milligrams, “16mg” for example. That means there is 16mg of nicotine in every milliliter of that particular eLiquid. (Also sometimes written as 16mg/ml, 1.6%, or 1.6% by vol.)

General strengths and what to expect:
0 mg/ml - No nicotine was added. This is for people that don't want nicotine but still love the flavors and feeling of using an eCig. Little to no throat hit.

6 to 9 mg/ml - A small amount of nicotine was added. This is pretty well suited for people who enjoy the flavor and vapor most of all but still take pleasure in a light amount of nicotine. Has a mild throat hit.

11 – 12 mg/ml - This strength is used by a broad spectrum of people. It is good if you want medium nicotine effects and a decent throat hit. Many people who use their eCig casually choose this strength but also heaver users that want to vape longer without so much effect from the nicotine.

16 mg/ml - If you like a full throat hit and full nicotine effect, this is the strength for you. Most people looking to create a similar experience to traditional cigarettes find this to be a good match.

24 mg/ml - This strength is good for users that really want a strong throat hit and very strong effects of nicotine.

Ovale does not offer strengths above 24mg.

eCab

eGo-C

Q: Can I use a normal AAA battery in my eCab?

Sorry but no. AAA batteries are typically 1.5 volts which is not enough to fire the atomizer. The eCab uses a a 3.7 volt rechargeable li-ion battery (ICR10440).

Q: Why does my eGo-C leak?

Some consumers have complained about leaking around the atomizer. We have several possible causes and solutions. First possible cause may be how the user inhales when using the tank system. The tank system was designed to have liquids flow only when the user inhales. If you hold a full tank cartridge up, you will see the liquid does not flow out. This is because the size of the hole and the surface tension of the liquid prevents it from flowing out. However, when a person inhales, it pulls liquid out of the tank. If a person inhales strongly or very quickly, it pulls lots of liquid out of the tank and the atomizer doesn’t have enough time to vaporize all of it. This leaves excess liquid on top of the atomizer. As the user continues to vape, this excess builds up and eventually leaks out around the atomizer. To solve this problem, first blow the excess liquids out of the atomizer cone. Then, try vaping again, but do not inhale too strongly or quickly. Another possibility is the user inhales but does not press the atomizer button quickly or long enough. The result is liquid will come out but not be vaporized. As you continue to use it, excess liquid builds up and starts to leak. The solution is to make sure you press the button as you start to inhale and press long enough to make sure all the liquid is vaporized. One other possibility is the tank cap is damaged. If you take the tank cap off often there is a chance of damaging that part of the lid. If part of the lid is damaged and liquid can come out of that damaged part, then when you inhale more liquid than the atomizer can burn will come out and eventually the excess will leak. The solution is to check for damaged cartridges and replace them if damaged. Also make sure the tank is pushed fully into the atomizer. If there is a space, excess liquids can build up there also.

Q: Where do the O-Rings go?

The assembled atomizer lock has one upper black O-ring and one lower clear O-ring. These O-rings are important to proper airflow and to prevent leaking. Occasionally they may need to be replaced if they become too worn. Replacements can be found in your kit box or ordered from our products page.

emini

Q: Why is the draw tight?

The tanks of the emini have two small vents that the vapor flows through. It is possible that this vent was not fully punched and may have a thin layer of plastic preventing air flow. You can easily fix this by opening up the hole yourself. A razor or small edge tool is good for this. Please use caution with sharp tools.

eVic

Q: How do I use the pass-through function.

The eVic has two modes when the USB cable is plugged in. If plugged into non-data power source, the eVic will begin charging with pass-through enabled. If the eVic recognizes that data transfer is possible, it defaults into a data transfer connection that still allows charging but not pass-through. In this case the “Charge Only” option in My Vapor Record program must be selected to switch it to the charging/pass-through mode. This means that pass-through will not be possible on some types of connections that allow data but where you can not run the MVR program (such as a car radio with USB).

Q: eVic will not fire when in a menu.

In order for the unit to fire it must be in the proper mode. Navigating the menus will deactivate the eVics ability to fire. Simply select exit in the menu to reactivate this ability.

Q: How do I update the eVic Menu? (IE: Preforming a firmware update)

To update the programing in the eVic itself, please fallow these steps:
  • Download the latest eVic firmware version.
  • Unzip the firmware binary ( .bin ).
  • Move the binary file to the 'HEX' directory of 'My Vapor Record's installation path.
    • Ex. C:\Program Files\My Vapor Record\HEX\
  • Plug the eVic into your computer via a USB port.
  • Click 'See My Vapor Record' on the MVR splash screen.
  • Click 'Upgrade my eCig'
  • A success or error alert will be displayed when the process has completed.

Q: Help, I bricked my eVic!

If a firmware update is interrupted before it's finished (power loss, disconnected data cable, ect) the eVic may lose partial or all functionality. Affectionately known as a 'brick'. In most cases the eVic can still be recovered though. Here is how:
  1. Insure that you have installed MVR to your computer.
  2. Disconnect the eVic battery from its control panel.
  3. Connect the control panel to your computer using the USB cable.
  4. Hold the fire button for 2 seconds.
  5. The MVR screen should now automatically open on your computer.
  6. Click 'Upgrade My eCig' and allow the update to complete.
  7. Disconnect the eVic control panel and close the MVR screen.
  8. Reconnect the battery to the control panel.
  9. You will see a factory default message.
  10. The eVic can now invoke MVR normally again but has no other functionality.
  11. Preform the normal firmware update to restore it's functions.
(see 'How do I update the eVic Menu?')
